Update - Opportunities for Convalescence and Rehabilitation

The Branch has pleasure updating the opportunities for members seeking convalescence or rehabilitation.

Flint House and other Police Treatment Centres

The Branch has advised members of proposed changes in respect of the use of the Flint House Treatment Centre. From the first of January 2016, all retired officers admitted for treatment will be charged £80 per day inclusive of accommodation and treatment. The website is:-  www.flinthouse.co.uk

There are also opportunities at the Police Treatment Centres for those who subscribe at:-

St Andrews in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and

Castlebrae in Auchterarder, Perthshire.

Details can be found on the PTC web site:-  www.thepolicetreatmentcentres.org

Opportunities for members to attend are restricted, since serving officers are given priority.

Other Opportunities

Convalescence is available to members who have served in the armed forces.

Branch Committee member Chris Spriggs is an officer of SSAFA which cannot offer convalescence itself, but can point ex-service personnel to other services and identify funding from other organisations.

The Royal British Legion does not provide convalescence, but they do offer respite breaks. However, this is not open to people with dementia.

The RAF Association does have some convalescence care, but prefer to offer respite care.

The Royal Star and Garter   has two sites - Solihull and Surbiton (with one more planned) for ex-service personnel or their spouses. The facilities are particularly suitable for those who require nursing care or who suffer from dementia. (The applicant must have a British services number.)

There are also opportunities for convalescence through the West Midlands Benevolent Fund, for those who are current members or, in exceptional circumstances, those who were members when serving. Details and a full list of benefits are available on the fund’s web site:-  www.wmpben.co.uk

The PMAS Foundation can offer respite care and many other benefits to retired officers. The Foundation’s help line is 0845 450 5220 and its web site:- www.foundation.policemutual.co.uk
