Planning for Later Life and Preparing for Death

NARPO HQ issued a Bereavement Booklet not so long ago which is very good, but mainly focusses on the actions needed once a death occurs.

Birmingham Branch has therefore prepared the attached document which provides advice as to what actions are required to fully prepare for later life and for our inevitable death - some of which should ideally be considered even at the point of retirement.

Your Branch officials become aware of several very sad cases, each year, where a member has not sorted a will or powers of attorney, leaving their partner and family in really difficult situations when the member becomes mentally incapacitated or dies. This is on top of of the grief and trauma for the partner and family experiencing the illness or loss of their loved one.

Do please read through the booklet and consider what you should be doing NOW to assist your partner and family. (There is a checklist at the back.)

An A5 paper version has been posted to our non-email members and if you wish to have a hard copy, please email our Treasurer, Ken Parker on Birmingham2@NARPO.Org

If you have any comments or suggestions for future editions of the booklet, please let me know.

Very Best Wishes

David Jeans

Birmingham Branch Secretary
