My name is Sandra DiNatale, and I am currently undertaking a master’s degree in criminology and criminal psychology at the University of Essex Online. I am conducting a qualitative research study exploring the extent to which weaknesses in forensic evidence reliability and expert witness interpretation contribute to miscarriages of justice in England and Wales.

I am inviting retired individuals with relevant professional knowledge or experience in this area to participate in the study. Participation would involve taking part in a confidential semi-structured interview lasting approximately 45–60 minutes, conducted at a time convenient to you via Microsoft Teams, Zoom or telephone.

The interview will explore perspectives on the use of forensic evidence within the criminal justice system, including issues relating to evidence reliability, expert testimony, and their potential role in wrongful convictions. Participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw from the study at any time before data analysis.

All information provided will be treated confidentially and anonymized in accordance with university ethical guidelines and GDPR requirements. No identifying information will be included in any dissertation or publication arising from the research.
