Articles in latest Narpo News Magazine

You should all have received (or are about to receive) the latest edition of Narpo News from our HQ in Wakefield. If you didn’t get it, please let me know.

I would like to draw your attention to two items.

On Pages 42/43 is a double page article by Kate Hall (Cathryn) a member of our Branch and widow of Colin Hall who passed away on duty in 1987. Many of us remember Colin and his passing.

Since 2014 Kate has spearheaded a national campaign, supported by Narpo and the Police Federation, seeking parity with widows in Northern Ireland and Scotland.

In England and Wales widows in receipt of a pension under the 1987 Pension regulations lose their Pension if they choose co-habit or remarry. In Northern Ireland and Scotland they don’t. The campaign seeks Fairness and Justice.

PLEASE WRITE TO YOUR MP AND ASK THEM TO SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN

On Page 37 is a Member Survey on the Structure of Branches.

This seeks your views and follows a resolution to the 2025 Conference from the Gwent Branch. This suggests an amalgamation of Branches to follow the Police Force Boundaries. In West Midlands that would mean combining 5 Branches, Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Wolverhampton, and us at Walsall (around 4000 members)

I hope you feel you can support our Branch in maintaining our identity as a group of volunteers (your Committee) offering local events and functions, local news and welfare support to our 600+ Members. We are in danger of losing our identity.

WE URGE ALL MEMBERS TO HAVE THEIR SAY ON THIS. MAKE YOUR VOICES HEARD. IT WILL BE TOO LATE WHEN THE DECISION IS MADE FOR US
